If you google this, you will find all kinds of answers. You’ll find systems that are supposed to work, but they do not take into consideration your environment, triggers, belief system, blind spots or circumstances. The number one thing that most articles are missing is helping you make decisions based on your personality and what season of life you are in. In this article, I am going to give you ONE piece that can help you lay the foundation to making a great decision.
I work exclusively with the DISC. When each of my clients enters into my program, this is the first step to being accepted. After all, I need to know how to effectively help them maximize their time with me. This assessment gives me a really good idea of where to start.
Each person in this world has one thing in common, and it is their uniqueness. You are unique in your own way. Your perceptions are different, how you approach things are different, how you process things are different, how you communicate with each other is different and how you make a decision is different.
Do you know that one single person makes 35,000 decisions a day? That is based on multiple internet sources. Younger children make decisions somewhere in the neighborhood of 3,000. Unfortunately, you will not escape from making decisions. You have been doing it naturally since birth. Your brain made a decisions cry to tell someone you were hungry. You made a decision to walk and from there you have made millions more decisions. So don’t fool yourself. You know how to make a decision.
Some decisions are easy while some are hard: Here are a few examples
- When do put gas in my car?
- What time do I schedule a meeting?
- Is this report ready to go to my team?
- Which of these candidates do I vote for?
- Do I help my child or let them get it on their own?
- Do I quit drinking or smoking?
- Do I eat this entire pizza?
- What is for dinner?
Get the point? Your day is full of decisions. How you make the decision is how simple or complex your life is.
Understanding who you are is the most invigorating accomplishment in the world. Take it from me. Someone who has spent their life trying to figure it out. Once I did I was unstoppable. Decisions come very easy to me now, but it started by laying my own foundation. Dr. Google is good at giving you the steps but misses the foundation.

Did you know that 80% of the things we worry about never happen? So if you are worried or fearful about making big decisions remember…Life is flexible, and you can always make an another decision. I recently read an article that said: “decision making is a skill.” I completely disagree with that. People, in general, put way too much pressure on themselves. Being afraid to make out of fear, guilt, anger, shame or loneliness will only lead you to more fear, guilt, anger, shame or loneliness. You may find yourself staying with what you know because it is comfortable. You know what certainty feels like, looks like, taste like. So it’s easier just to stay in that place. Making a decision and moving into uncertainty is hard. You don’t know what it looks like, feels like or taste like and that is so uncomfortable. I bet having what you want out of life is worth it, though. It’s time to cross over and be comfortable with who you are and what you specifically need.
Remember- No decision is final. You can always make another decision!
